Our cooperation with Eutelsat marks the next major milestone of the HUSAT satellite programme

Press Release

4iG Space and Defence Technologies Zrt. and Eutelsat signed geostationary orbit and frequency licence agreement

4iG SDT also leases associated frequency resources from Eutelsat so thus newly signed contract marks a key milestone in the HUSAT satellite programme.

  • 4iG Space and Defence Technologies Zrt. (4iG SDT) signed a Geostationary Orbit and Frequency Licence Agreement with France’s Eutelsat SA (Eutelsat), one of the world’s most established and renowned satellite telecommunications operators.

  • Eutelsat grants 4iG SDT an exclusive 15-year licence, starting from the satellite launch and operating the HUGEO geostationary satellite at the designated orbital position and its associated frequencies. The agreement forms the foundation of HUSAT satellite programme.

  • The largest privately initiated and financed space project in CEE, the Hungarian HUSAT satellite programme is to deploy one geostationary telecommunications satellite (HUGEO) and eight low Earth orbit observation satellites (HULEO) by the year 2032, positioning 4iG SDT as a key player in the region’s space industry.

4iG Space and Defence Technologies Zrt. (4iG SDT) and France-based Eutelsat, one of Europe’s leading multi-orbit satellite operators, signed a Geostationary Orbit and Frequency Licence Agreement securing the orbital position and associated frequency rights for HUGEO, the geostationary telecommunications satellite of the Hungarian HUSAT programme. Signed following the binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) concluded with Eutelsat in August 2025, the contract opens a new phase of the HUSAT programme.

Under the agreement signed, Eutelsat grants 4iG SDT an exclusive 15-year licence to use the designated geostationary orbital position and associated frequency resources, enabling 4iG SDT to operate the HUGEO telecommunications satellite on this orbital slot after its launch. The exact orbital position, frequency rights and satellite coverage areas remain confidential in accordance with the terms of the agreement.

“Our cooperation with Eutelsat marks the next major milestone of the HUSAT satellite programme, while further strengthening the 4iG Group position as a leading technology player in the region,” said István Sárhegyi Dr, CEO of 4iG Space and Defence Technologies Zrt. “The contract also underlines Hungarian space industry ambitions and satellite programme, which are recognised by leading global players.”

Eutelsat accumulated more than 40 years of experience in the domain of satellite operations, providing global satellite communications services with a fleet of 34 geostationary and approximately 600 low Earth orbit satellites, in cooperation with international and French regulatory authorities.

HUSAT is the biggest privately initiated and financed satellite programme in Hungary and in the CEE region. As part of the programme, 4iG SDT plans to launch and operate one geostationary telecommunications (HUGEO) and eight high-resolution Earth observation satellites in low orbit (HULEO) by 2032 and will operate them throughout their lifetime.

The long-term partnership between the two technological companies secured Hungary’s position on the space industry map of Europe and opens new horizons in the national development of satellite technologies. It also contributes to building 4iG Group’s satellite infrastructure, strengthening digital sovereignty, and advancing Earth observation and next-generation telecommunications services.
