Press Release

4iG Space and Defence Technologies signs MoU with Kazakhstan’s state space company

Strategic international space industry cooperation launched between Kazakhstan and 4iG Group

  • Gellért Jászai, Chairman of 4iG Plc and Hungary’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary for the Development of International Business Relations, is on an official two-day visit to Kazakhstan to strengthen Hungarian–Kazakh technological cooperation. The delegation includes István Sárhegyi, CEO of 4iG Space and Defence Technologies Plc. (4iG SDT), and Ottó Iván Róna, Hungary’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan.
  • A key highlight of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between 4iG SDT and Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary (KGS), the country’s state-owned space enterprise. The MoU establishes a framework for collaboration in Earth observation, satellite technologies, data sharing, and remote sensing applications.
  • The agreement aims to launch strategically significant joint projects and facilitate knowledge transfer between the two companies in these critical technology segments.
  • The signing ceremony was attended by Gellért Jászai and Zhaslan Madiyev, Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan is one of Central Asia’s leading economies, placing strategic emphasis on the development of telecommunications and space research. Earlier this year, prior to the current visit, 4iG Group held exploratory talks in Budapest with Kazakh partners on potential areas of technological cooperation. These discussions covered a broad range of topics from satellite communications and Earth observation to digital infrastructure. The MoU now signed marks a milestone in this dialogue and opens new avenues for space and technology collaboration between the two nations.

Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary (KGS) is a state-owned company responsible for overseeing, organising and developing Kazakhstan’s space activities. KGS is committed to advancing space technologies, supporting industrial processes, and delivering innovative solutions aligned with national priorities and global market standards.

As part of the cooperation, 4iG SDT and KGS will establish joint expert working groups tasked with developing concrete projects and knowledge-sharing programmes. These will focus on Earth observation data sharing, satellite systems development, remote sensing applications, manufacturing cooperation, and ground segment services. A key priority of the partnership will be the joint development and launch of satellites, with the aim of strengthening the countries’ shared space capabilities.

Commenting on the agreement, Gellért Jászai, Chairman of 4iG Plc, said: "This partnership with Kazakhstan marks a strategic milestone for us. By combining our expertise in space and digital technologies with the capabilities of our Kazakh partners, we can launch joint projects that not only benefit our two companies but also strengthen the technological and economic ties between Hungary and Kazakhstan. As part of 4iG Group’s international expansion, we are committed to supporting cutting-edge telecommunications and space developments in the Central Asian region and expanding our presence in the global space industry."

During the visit, the Hungarian delegation also discussed cooperation opportunities related to digital infrastructure development and operations. Particular focus was given to potential partnerships for establishing alternative intercontinental telecommunications routes between Asia and Europe, as well as collaboration on the development of high-capacity data centres.

István Sárhegyi, CEO of 4iG SDT, emphasised the practical value of the agreement: "This MoU provides a solid foundation for hands-on cooperation. The 4iG Group’s capabilities in space and data technologies, combined with KGS’s expertise in satellite remote sensing, can lead to innovative solutions that deliver real business value for both sides. We are confident that our joint efforts will soon produce tangible results—whether in the form of new satellite services or the effective utilisation of Earth observation data."

Today, Gellért Jászai and the Hungarian delegation are attending several high-level meetings in Kazakhstan. These include discussions at the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry, meetings with the Deputy Minister for Space Activities, and talks with senior executives of Kazakh Invest, Kazakhstan’s national investment promotion agency. The agenda covers the future of digital innovation, space industry cooperation, and potential Hungarian investments in Kazakhstan.
