4iG Group has entered into a strategic agreement with Nokia

Press Release

4iG Group selects Nokia for network modernization

The partnership provides secure, sustainable and future-proof connectivity in Hungary, while enhancing the quality and reliability of telecommunications services.

4iG Group has entered into a strategic agreement with Nokia in order to modernize and unify its IP access and DWDM transport backbone networks. The objective of the development is to establish a next-generation ready, energy-efficient and secure network infrastructure that handles increasing data traffic, supports the growth of digital services, and ensures sustainable operations in the long term.

Committed to advancing innovative networking solutions, 4iG recognized the need to consolidate its legacy networks, which had been built using divers technologies over time. 4iG Group evaluated proposals from several global industry players in a restricted tender process for the unification of high-capacity IP access and DWDM-based transport backbone networks, and selected Nokia as its strategic technology partner. Key decision criteria included strong international references, compatibility and future-readiness of the proposed technology, and integration of sustainable solutions as well. The collaboration of 4iG Group and Nokia is expected to commence later this year.

Leveraging Nokia’s state-of-the-art network solutions, the new system delivers fast, stable and secure connectivity in supporting the country’s AI infrastructure buildout. This will satisfy both current and future capacity requirements, thereby establishing the bedstone for next-generation services including the substantial growth in connectivity needs driven by AI and data centre connectivity. In addition, the implementation of a fully automated, cloud-native service model enables service providers to deliver enhanced levels of service to both residential and enterprise customers.

„Our partnership with Nokia goes beyond technology: together we aim to build a network infrastructure that will strengthen our role in shaping the region’s digital development in the coming years. We are not just building a network but laying the foundation for an ecosystem in our customers and partners can plan their future with confidence and security” – said Péter Fekete, CEO of 4iG Group.

“Our collaboration with 4iG Group marks a significant step in advancing secure, high-performance connectivity across Hungary and our latest win in this region. As AI continues to reshape how industries and individuals consume digital services, building a robust, future-ready, secure network foundation is essential. Our shared vision with 4iG is to deliver a resilient, secure, energy-efficient, and scalable network that enables innovation and supports the digital ambitions of both businesses and communities” said Matthieu Bourguignon, Senior Vice President for Network Infrastructure Europe, Nokia.

To enable the rollout of next-generation digital services, the new infrastructure is based on Segment Routing over IPv6 (SRv6), a future-ready routing technology and the latest generation of high-speed DWDM optical technology. At the same time, it remains fully compatible with existing optical and IP/MPLS-based systems. In addition to these, Software-Defined Networking (SDN) allows centralized configuration of network elements, optimizing processes and reducing the risk of misconfiguration. This allows telecom operators to access network services in a fully automated, cloud-native environment. In selecting its partner, 4iG also placed strong emphasis on environmental considerations: Nokia solutions provide reduced energy consumption and space-efficient equipment.

The strategic partnership between Nokia and 4iG will thus drive the renewal of network infrastructure, foster industry innovation and promote the deployment of sustainable technologies – supporting to the long-term growth and resilience of Hungary’s telecommunications sector.
